Sometimes, things are not as they should be.
No one becomes a police officer so that he can serve as a first responder at a school shooting. And no teacher ever imagines that she’ll see a shooting in her classroom. No journalists dream of covering the murder of children, and no parents can fathom that their little ones aren’t safe at school.
This? Is not ok.
This is not ok.
As we struggle to make sense of something so senseless, we’ll point fingers and make accusations and draw our own conclusions, as a way of coping. But these things won’t help us, no. Because sadly, there’s no way to get what we really want — the guarantee that this won’t happen again.
But there are things we all can do to make the world better.
The way we act and talk and love and treat each other. It’s not a cure, but it matters — it’s a start. And right now, we need that. We all need to love each other a little bit more.
